PGXlab

The PGXlab at the Ribeirao Preto College of Nursing at the University of Sao Paulo aims to establish genetic and biochemical biomarkers to predict risk to disease and pharmacological response in psychiatric and cardiovascular contexts. They especially aim at mechanisms that may be altered in both conditions, including metalloproteinases, nitric oxide, growth factors and others.
In the future, patients with a specific profile of altered biomarkers may benefit from a pharmacological treatment especially tailored for them, including repurposed drugs which -while they may not be of value to the general population- may represent an additional mechanism of action improving care to specific biomarker-oriented groups.
