IBIS – Biomedicine Institute of Seville

The Neurovascular Research Group from the IBIS (Biomedicine Institute of Seville, Spain) aims to discover different biomarkers panels to identify patients with ischemic stroke in the ambulance. These discoveries incorporated in point-of-care tests will allow to initiate fast reperfusion therapies and neuroprotection drugs on the way to the right hospital.
Another research field in which this team is making excellent advances is the administration of stem cells during the acute phase of stroke and several pilot studies have been carried out which have demonstrated that using cell therapy promotes tissue repair and functional recovery. The team is among the leading centers in the country conducting academic clinical trials that might improve thrombectomy efficacy using repurposed drugs. The two hospitals linked to this research team (Hospital Universitario Rocio and Macarena) are among the leading centers in the country recruiting patients in academic and industry sponsored clinical trials in several disciplines.
