The Translational Neuropharmacology Laboratory @University of Cyprus
The Translational Neuropharmacology Laboratory at the University of Cyprus, is dedicated to advancing research in drug repurposing and neuropharmacology. Established in 2021, they specialize in translational/behavioral/molecular neuropharmacology and neuroscience, with a primary focus on drug repurposing projects. Their diverse team brings together a wide range of expertise, including specialists in Drug Repurposing, Molecular and Behavioral Pharmacology, Drug Discovery, Neuroscience, Clinical Psychology, Medicinal Chemistry, and Systems Bioinformatics. Embracing innovation, they integrate experimental techniques, including in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo rodent models, along with bioinformatics methodologies and genetic epidemiology, to unravel the complexities of different brain diseases, and other comorbid conditions. Their specific focus lies on neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental diseases, as well as neuropsychiatric disorders. Notably, they are the first lab to ever conduct a drug-interventional clinical trial in Cyprus, marking a significant milestone in their research efforts. In this trial, they are repurposing the anesthetic drug ketamine for treating opioid use disorders (EudraCT number, 2022-001997-70).
